Buy the box

We recommend the onn. 4K Google TV box from Walmart, about $20. The onn. 4K Pro (about $50) adds an Ethernet port, worth it for a wall TV you never want to touch again.

Any Google TV or Android TV device works, including TVs with Google TV built in. Amazon Fire TV Sticks do not work: they no longer allow apps like this one.

2

Plug it in and sign in

Connect the box to the TV's HDMI port and to Wi-Fi or Ethernet, then follow Google TV's own setup.

The box needs a Google account to install apps. Use a shared store account (for example tvs@yourdispensary.com), not an employee's personal account.

3

Install Flowhub TV with Downloader

  1. On the box, open Google Play, search for Downloader (by AFTVnews) and install it.
  2. Open Downloader. In its address box type tv.flowhub.com/apk and press Go.
  3. The first time, Android says Downloader is not allowed to install unknown apps. Choose Settings, turn the switch on for Downloader, then press Back. (It lives under Settings → Apps → Security & restrictions → Unknown sources if you need to find it later.)
  4. Choose Install, then Open. Flowhub TV also appears in the apps row on the home screen.
4

Pair the screen with your phone

Flowhub TV shows a QR code and a six-letter code. Scan the QR with your phone, sign in, pick the location, and give the screen a name like "Behind counter left". The menu appears on the TV within a few seconds and stays in sync with your inventory from then on.

5

Let it start by itself

Right after pairing, the TV asks to let Flowhub TV start by itself. Choose Open settings, pick Flowhub TV, turn the switch on, and press Back. This is what brings the menu back after a power outage; without it the box boots to the Google TV home screen instead.

You can do this later from the app's settings: hold Back on the remote for a second.

6

Updates take care of themselves

Menu designs and features update on our side; the TV picks them up overnight. The app itself checks for a new version every night too. The first time it finds one it asks you to confirm on screen and to allow Flowhub TV to install updates. After that, updates install on their own.

If something is off

  • The menu does not come back after a power cut. Step 5 was skipped. Hold Back on the remote, then choose "Allow display over other apps".
  • The TV shows "Can't reach the menu board". The box lost its network. It retries by itself; check Wi-Fi under Google TV settings.
  • You want to move the box to another TV. Just move it. The pairing stays with the box.
  • You want to re-pair it to a different location. Unpair the screen in Studio; the TV drops back to the QR code.
  • Staff keep landing on the Google TV home screen. Ask your Flowhub rep about kiosk mode, which makes Flowhub TV the home screen.
